Tonight is always a shit show

The day before Thanksgiving, when all the fools are out, together, in one place.  Jam packed into bars, shoulder to shoulder.  Sweating and yelling at each other because no one can hear a damn thing.  People laugh.  People tell stories.  We get reunited with with ‘friends’ we haven’t seen one year to this date.  Every single freekin’ conversation goes:

“Hey man, how have you been”
“Good, you?”
“Oh good.  Whats up, where you working?”

You have this conversation, I’ll say, 30 times.  It is annoying and repetitive.  “You never call me” they’ll say.  “Oh, why because you fucking call me.  Of course I don’t call you, I have nothing to say. Are you alive?  Good, that’s about all I care about.  I don’t care to hang out with you and hear about your children and stupid boring life.  You don’t care to hear about my issues so let’s squash this shit and drink.  You’re giving me a headache.”

One year ago yesterday, my brother came home. One year ago today, I had to hear my brother slurr his words on drugs for the ten thousandth time. One year ago today, I wished he didn’t exist. One year ago tomorrow, I called my brother. One year ago today, he answered by saying words I’ll never forget.
“Carlee, I have a loaded gun to my head, and I’m going to do it.”
One year ago tomorrow, I pleaded with my brother to keep breathing. One year later, I sit in the house that it happened.… And he doesn’t exist.
When I set out for the tattoo shop today, I had something completely different in mind. Something with vines and pretty lettering of my only sibling’s name. I decided against it, and instead had his own handwriting stitched into my skin. I figure, If I’m going to have anything, I want to have something he touched. … Because that is what he did for me.And after all, it’s his words that stick with me the closest.

I love Atreyu.  Each album is something different.  A different form of heavy, a different form of raw and a different form of polish.  They have grown and evolved with each album.  Lead Sails, Paper Anchor, their first release with Hollywood Records has been my least favorite.  It did get them into the mainstream but it just isn’t them. Honestly, I thought Alex’s voice was wrecked.  He sang pretty much that entire album, not the Alex V. we have grown to love.  All Atreyu fans hoped to get back the days of Suicide Notes and Butterfly Kisses. We yearned for the heavy ballads from The Curse.  We ached for the first pumping sounds off A Deathgrip on Yesterday.  We wanted Atreyu back.
With their latest album, Congregation of the Damned, I am pleased.  Yes, not as heavy as the Suicide Notes, The Curse, or A Deathgrip but this album, more than any of their work to date, is polished.  Musically, they are put together in this recording and Brandon Saller really puts himself out there as the best drummer/singer in the business.  He is, as he has been, incredibly smooth and consistent.  I ask myself if he is singing more in this album as proof of their evolution as a band or if it is to help prolong the damage to Alex’s voice.  Maybe it’s both.  With this we see their growth from a 17 year-old heavy band.  With this release Atreyu announces that they haven’t gone anywhere.  A claim that makes me very happy.

I don’t love this man but I happen to like this song very much.

I WOULD RATHER SEE PICTURES OF YOU RATHER THAN PICTURES YOU TAKE. I’m sure you do nice work and all, but I’d rather see you than those other people.
